Practical information

Public Transportation

  • The conference center can be reached by high-speed train (TGV) from Paris or from Lyon airports, as well as from Milan and Turin.
  • Booking of taxis (from Modane train station to the conference center and back) will be coordinated by the Langevin conference center so that participants can share cabs; the bus line is indeed not working the week of the conference.
  • To leave Modane on Friday (towards France), transports are schedulled from Modane at 12H05, 18H et 19H14.
  • The  trains leaving at 18H and 19H14 allow to reach Chambéry, Lyon and Paris easily in the evening but it may be more difficult to reach other cities, in which case it may be a good idea to leave Modane at 12H05.
  • We planned to end the last lecture at 11H allowing people to leave the conference center and reach Modane before 12H; they will simply miss the conclusion session.
  • On the other hand, for those who will stay the whole afternoon, we organize a session to conclude the week late morning and there will be free discussion sessions in the afternoon. Alternatively, you can go and wander in Aussois area.

Free Wednesday afternoon

  • On Wednesday, there will be no lecture.
  • We organize a hike with mountain guides from Aussois who will take us for hikes right after lunch. We will have several groups of various difficulties depending on the participants wishes and experiences). If you are willing to take part in the organized excursion, please let us know before Monday 5th of May at noon Paris time, to allow us to plan the adequate number of groups and guides. Center Langevin will provide hiking shoes and sticks for participants of the organized excursion.
  • Besides the hike organized by EPIT, several other options are possible:
    • visit the village or walk to the forteresses (you can easily walk to "forts de l'Esseillon", https://www.aussois.com/decouvrir-le-village/les-incontournables/les-forts-de-l-esseillon/)
    • hike by yourself around Aussois (if you do so, please let the Center and the organizers know where you go in advance)
    • practice the Aussois Via Ferrata, weather permitting. (Beware, this require some knowledge about the practice of Via Ferrata and mountain hiking). Center Langevin can rent you the Via Ferrata equipment (better to book it in advance by informing us in advance via the form below), informations on the various via ferrata can be found here (in French only...): https://www.aussois.com/equipement/la-via-ferrata-du-diable-aussois/ this includes a detailled descriptions of the various routes in pdf.
    • you can also contact the mountain guide office in Aussois to organize a climbing afternoon with a high-altitude guide or climbing instructor: https://guides-savoie.com/ (their are options taking only half a day).
    • last, it is also possible to stay and work in Langevin Center: a room will be available for EPIT participants.
  • In any case, we ask you to tell us about your plans by Monday 5th of May Paris time, especially if you plan to do the organized excusrion by filling the following form. 

 

 

Other practical questions:

  • The school will start on monday morning may 19th. Participants are expected to arrive on sunday the 18th of may.
  • The school will end on friday 23rd early afternoon: participants departure from the conference center will be on friday afternoon.
  • Registration fees cover full housing and meals. (Registration fees for CNRS employees are directly covered by CNRS; CNRS employees do not pay registration fees.)
  • Housing can be in single room or in shared double room, as chosen by the participants upon registration. 
  • If you wish to come with partner (or children), please contact the organisors on that regard: children under 3 are hosted for free at Centre Langevin but your partner will have to pay the registration fees which cove the housing and meals. If your partner is coming only for part of t he week, it is possible not to use the school registration but to pay directly to the conference center for the number of days corresponding to the stay. In any case, you and your partner shuold fill the framaforms (see registration section) and let us know what are you plans.
  • The conference center offers vegetarian and non-vegetarian options and can adapt to allergies but sadly cannot offer vegan options.
  • A social event will be organised during the school.
  • There will be a free afternoon during which we plan an excursion, weather permitting.
